About the Class

Is your child ready to embark on a musical journey? Our "Strum & Play" guitar class is the starting point for young learners with little/no prior experience. Designed for elementary-aged kids, this class covers everything needed to start playing the guitar with confidence and joy. In each session, students will learn: Guitar Basics: From how to comfortably hold and sit with the guitar, to understanding the essential parts of the instrument, we’ll cover all the groundwork. Rhythm Practice: Learning rhythm is key to playing great music. Kids will practice counting and strumming rhythms, laying the foundation for playing their favorite songs. Guitar Tablature: Unlike other instruments, guitar has its own unique way of reading music called tablature (or "TAB"). We’ll introduce students to this simple, straightforward method of reading and writing guitar music, so they can start playing tunes from the very first lesson. Using a Guitar Pick: The guitar pick is crucial for playing different styles of music. Kids will learn how to hold a pick properly, strum with it, and pick individual notes to create melodies. Fretting Notes: Fretting the right notes involves more than just finger placement. Students will explore how their posture, arm positioning, and wrist movement contribute to smooth, clean notes. By the end of this course, your child will have the skills and confidence to strum along to their favorite songs, all while having a great time with their peers. "Strum & Play" is all about making music fun, approachable, and inspiring for young beginners! Things to Know: We have one guitar to lend, if you plan to come regularly we recommend purchasing an inexpensive beginners guitar. Membership Benefit: This class is included with our monthly membership package. Please contact us to enroll in a course. Inclusive Access: To ensure that all children have the chance to enjoy our enriching programs, regardless of their family's financial situation, we offer Inclusive Access Classes at a discounted rate. Please visit the Memberships and Packages page to find how to get the Inclusive Access rate. More details can be found on our FAQ page.

Cancellation Policy

When you enroll in our multi-class course, you're securing a dedicated spot for your child in a small group learning experience. Our course fee is set with the understanding that students may occasionally miss a class due to illness or other commitments. This allows us to maintain consistent small group sizes that enhance learning and ensure teacher availability for every session. While we cannot offer credits or makeups for classes your child is unable to attend, we are committed to delivering all six classes in each course. If we need to cancel a class due to teacher illness or emergency, we will automatically schedule a makeup class by extending the course schedule. This ensures every student receives the full class experience they enrolled for. For new students joining mid-course, we happily pro-rate the course fee based on the remaining classes. However, this adjustment must be arranged at the time of enrollment. Think of our courses like a semester at school or a sports team season - your enrollment reserves your child's spot in the group, ensuring they can build skills alongside their peers in a consistent, supportive environment. This structure helps us create the best possible learning experience for all our students. We appreciate your understanding and commitment to making our small group classes a success.
